Mika's Sushi Classes

Our informative and fun Sushi classes have become a firm favorite with sushi lovers, foodies and the plain curious. You can attend one of our monthly classes at Mika, held on the last Sunday of every month, or include a class as extra dimension to any event, be it a private function, team building day or corporate event!

You'll be welcomed by our senior chef Alan Jones with a refreshing pot of green tea before being shown the preparation area, around which you'll work for the class. Classes are friendly and focused where you'll learn the skills to make Nigiri, Hosomaki & Futomaki which you can eat at the end of the event, or take away to impress your friends!

Alan was trained by Sushi master Yoshida San and took up responsibility for training

Sushi classes last approximately 3 hours & run as follows:

  • Arrival and welcome Tea
  • A History of Sushi
  • Sushi Rice – what is it, why is it and how to make it
  • Nigiri, Hosomaki & Futomaki – what they are and how to make them
  • Maki Roll Speed Trials – fastest student wins a bottle of Premium Sake
  • Best Futomaki – student with the best Futomaki wins a meal for 2 at Mika
  • Sake – a guide, tasting and time to relax
